Attorney General Jackley Urges Congress to Fully Fund Security Request for U.S. Supreme Court

PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley has joined 44 other Attorneys General in urging Congress to fully fund the U.S. Supreme Court’s Fiscal Year 2027 security request, citing an increase in threats against federal judges and their families.

“Security of U.S. Supreme Court Justices and all public officials must always be a priority,” said Attorney General Jackley. “I promote that effort for our judges and other elected officials in South Dakota and Congress needs to do the same at the federal level.”

According to the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, “security incidents of significant concern” for judges spiked by 57 percent in FY 2025. The Supreme Court’s FY 2027 request includes $14.6 million to expand personal protection for the Justices as well as additional personnel to strengthen security at the Supreme Court building.  It also includes $2 million for an off-site command post to coordinate residential protection for the Justices.
